PRINCETON — Princeton's Coalition for Peace Action will be screening acclaimed film producer Robert Greenwald's just-released documentary film "Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and the NRA" on Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton.

Leading a discussion following the film will be Dolores Phillips, legislative director of the Ceasefire N.J. Project of the CFPA, and Reverend Robert Moore, CFPA executive director.

According to CFPA, "'Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and The NRA' tells the stories of how guns, and the billions made off of them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who have been affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims' families. The film exposes how the powerful gun companies and the NRA are resisting responsible legislation for the sake of profit - and thereby putting people in danger. The film looks into gun tragedies that include unintentional shootings, domestic violence, suicides, mass shootings, and trafficking - and what we can do to put an end to this profit-driven crisis. CFPA and its Ceasefire N.J. Project hope to use the film to work with partners to fight for a country where public safety is more valued than profit."

"The NRA has been the major impediment to sensible gun violence prevention steps, such as universal background checks, which should have ensued from the epidemic of gun violence in America," said Moore. "Mass shootings in America now average more than one a day, and 90 people a day are dying at the hand of a gun.

"This screening and discussion is an opportunity for members of the public to become better informed and empowered to take on and defeat the stranglehold the NRA continues to hold on this issue. When the NRA tried to rescind New Jersey's Assault Weapons Ban in 1993, CFPA and partners were successful in defeating the effort, and preserving the Ban. We can do it again - if enough concerned citizens get involved."
