EWING - The condition of the 92-year-old woman who was beaten and bound during a Ewing home invasion Monday is improving slightly, police said Wednesday.

Police were able to talk to the woman, who was listed in stable but guarded condition Wednesday, but she was unable to provide new details about her attackers, Capt. Rocco Maurca said.

The woman suffered a fractured skull and had brain bleeding as a result of the attack, Maurca said.

The investigation into her attack continues, Maruca said.

A neighbor called police after seeing an open door at the woman's Manor Drive home, and suspected a burglary, police have said.

Police determined two men forced their way into the woman's home sometime overnight, possibly from about 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. The men ransacked the home looking for items to steal, then assaulted the woman and bound her, police have said.

In the woman's neighborhood Wednesday, one resident wasn't taking any chances.

Vikram Shah had a locksmith and security company at his home to make sure it's 100 percent secure, moves he made after hearing about the home invasion.

"First time in 30 years I've heard of something like this here," he said. "First time."

He's lived in the neighborhood since the early 1980s, and had a security system years ago, but he said it's time to get a new one.

Ewing officers searched the neighborhood Tuesday but did not locate any suspicious persons, police said. Manor Drive runs between West Upper Ferry Road and Wilburtha Road.

Police have stepped up marked and unmarked patrols in the area, police have said.

The crime is the second home invasion this month in Ewing.

On March 3, two men armed with handguns burst into the 13th Street home of an 83-year-old Ewing woman and robbed her and a Comcast employee who happened to be at her home doing work.

In that home invasion, the gunmen ordered the two victims into a bathroom and then ransacked the house.

Ewing Detectives linked Trenton resident Taquan Jenkins, 29, to the crime. He was arrested a few hours later, police have said.

Maurca on Wednesday said there likely was no connection between the two crimes.

Anyone with information about the latest crime is asked to call Ewing Detective Nick Muscente at 609-882-1313 ext. 7596 or the Ewing police tipline at 609-882-7530.
