The spokesman declined to make public any other information, like the identities or ages of the inmates, details of the substance or where they are incarcerated.
CHESTERFIELD - Two state prison inmates were taken to a local hospital after ingesting a substance, officials said.
"Two inmates were taken to a local hospital Sunday evening to be evaluated for substances they allegedly ingested," a state Department of Corrections spokesman said.
"They were released from the hospital early Monday morning and have returned to an appropriate DOC facility," the spokesman said. "The case is under investigation."
The spokesman declined to make public any other information, like the identities or ages of the inmates, details of the substance or where they are incarcerated.
Reports show ambulances were dispatched to the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.
The prison houses about 1,700 young adult male offenders.
In late August, an inmate at the prison was sent to a local hospital for treatment of injuries from an assault.
