LAWRENCE -- Throughout April, the headquarters branch of the Mercer County Library System in Lawrence will display its Seventh Annual Trashed Art Contest.
"The contest's aim is to encourage people to look at trash differently and repurpose items destined for the landfill into something artful," the library said.
Spokeswoman Julia Cuddahy said typically all the art entries - made from recycled materials - will be displayed throughout the library.
Awards will be given to the best art pieces in both adult and student categories, Cuddahy said.
She said the judges will be James Damron, manager of Lawrence main branch; Ellen Brown, director of the Mercer County Library System; Kathleen Metaxas, instructor at the Arts Council of Princeton, and Lisa Thomas of Jerry's Artarama of Lawrenceville.
Cuddahy said winners will receive a certificate of achievement by the Friends of the Lawrence Library.
A Trashed Art reception will be held on Saturday April 23 at 2 p.m.
The Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System is located at 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville.
