Elected officials across the country helped deliver meals in their communities this week
EWING -- Homebound seniors got a special visit this week from local politicians, who were delivering meals as part of the "March for Meals" awareness campaign.
On March 1, Meals on Wheels of Mercer County kicked off its annual month long campaign to raise public awareness of hunger among seniors.
"The services that we provide the seniors of Mercer County are critical and the need is rapidly increasing," said Sasa Olessi Montano, the nonprofit's executive director. "Together, we can keep seniors living independently, healthier at home and feeling more connected to their community as they age."
This week was Community Champions Week, where elected officials across the country helped deliver meals in their communities.
U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12th Dist.), state Assemblymembers Reed Gusciora, Liz Muoio and Andrew Zwicker (D-Mercer), County Executive Brian Hughes, East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov, Ewing Mayor Bert Steinmann and Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert took part in the initiative.
"We are so pleased that our representatives take such an active role in the lives of their most vulnerable constituents," Olessi Montano said.
