Corey Mitchell pleaded guilty to aggravated assault after the 2014 stabbing that caused a 4 hour standoff.
TRENTON - A Pennington man admitted this week week to stabbing his sister multiple times in an assault that incited a four-hour police stand off two years ago.
Corey Mitchell pleaded guilty to aggravated assault Monday and faces four years in prison for the assault, which occurred in November of 2014.
Police said at the time that Mitchell stabbed a relative multiple times in the Hopewell Gardens apartment complex in Hopewell Township one night. The relative - later identified by prosecutors as Mitchell's 44-year-old sister - was able to escape the apartment with help from her boyfriend that night.
Evaluation ordered for stabbing suspect
But the incident was far from over - Mitchell refused to come out of the apartment, which he shared with his mother, police said at the time. Officers from multiple townships responded to the scene where Mitchell had barricaded himself in the apartment.
They finally forced their way into the apartment around 1 a.m. - four hours after the standoff began, police have said.
With the plea deal, Mitchell faces four years in prison, though he will only have to serve 85 percent of that before he is eligible for parole, according to the prosecutor's office.
He will be sentenced on May 13.
