Soldiers will be training with 81 mm and 120 mm mortars from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST -- A Massachusetts Army National Guard unit will be firing mortars during training that starts Thursday and runs through the weekend, the joint base announced.
Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment will be training with 81 mm and 120 mm mortars from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
During the training exercises, the joint base community and residents of the surrounding areas may experience moderate ground shaking and moderate noise coming from the base's ranges, the base said.
The noises may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.
The base routinely issues the advisories when artillery and demolitions training is scheduled. The base said in a statement that the training is essential for military readiness and base officials routinely work to minimize the impact it has on its surrounding communities.
