HIT: Trenton's selection - the first city in New Jersey - for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child program, which aims to bring "access, balance and equity" to arts education.

HIT: The interesting story of a man who stole a cell phone from Butch's Welding in Trenton last week, only to return the swiped item after seeing footage of the crime on Facebook. The phone was tossed over the business' fence and included an apologetic and remorseful note from the man.

MISS: The continued closure of 15 of Hamilton's school playgrounds, which is calling into question whether the township's own playgrounds are safe. Residents have been posting pictures online of rusted equipment, exposed sharp metal edges, graffiti and an inadequate amount of mulch to cushion falls.

HIT: The apparent momentum of fire districts in Hamilton toward consolidation in some form. So far, three districts have passed resolutions calling for a unified township firefighting force, which proponents say will save taxpayer money.

HIT: The grand opening of HomeFront's Family Campus in Ewing, a project nearly 10 years in the making, an invaluable resource for the organization's mission to end homelessness in Mercer County.

MISS: Hamilton Mayor Kelly Yaede's decision not to debate Democratic challenger Amy Inman. 

HIT: The removal of a large hornet's nest from a Franklin Road utility pole in Ewing, which was prompted by residents's complaints to PSE&G.

HIT: Mind over body: Watching 90-year-olds from Princeton's Brandywine Senior Living at Princeton publicly demonstrate their prowess in Tai Chi this week. 

MISS: The decision by insurance giant Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield to designate Capital Health and St. Francis Medical Center as tier-two hospitals in its OMNIA Health Alliance, which will cost patients higher premiums or deductibles if they chose those hospitals.
