Michael Houston was charged with attempted homicide and weapons charges in September after police say he stabbed a 45-year-old man in the neck seven times at a deli in Ewing.

Houston appeared in court for an arraignment Thursday during which prosecutors offered him a plea deal, Assistant Prosecutor Tim Ward said. Houston would have to plead guilty to aggravated assault and would face eight years in prison but the other charges against him would be dropped, Ward said.

Houston did not plead guilty Thursday, Ward said.

The charges stem from a September 18 incident when police have said Houston stabbed the 45-year-old in the neck with a knife. The victim told police at the time that he and Houston had been locked in an ongoing dispute since August.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital the next day and Houston was arrested at his Trenton home shortly after the incident.
