WASHINGTON CROSSING PA- Kids, don't try this at home.
After being treated to a spirited rendition of "Happy Birthday" sung by an army of supporters, General George Washington portrayed by John Godzieba cut his birthday cake...with his sword.
The cake-cutting, and eating, were the culmination of the day's activities held at Washington Crossing Historic Park, in Washington Crossing, Pa., commemorating the 284th birthday of our nation's 1st president.
Historic portrayers were on hand giving demonstrations of various aspects of colonial life, from Martha Washington's recipe for "The Great Cake", to artillery, blacksmiths and even a sign-up station to enlist in the colonial army.
Upon entering the park, children were given blank postcards they could fill up with stickers from each station to complete a picture of George Washington.
Visitors could also take up quills and write letters to Washington or dress up in full colonial regalia and have their picture taken.
The Visitor's Center at Washington Crossing Historic Park was completely renovated in 2012 and contains a 248-seat auditorium for movies, concerts, speaking engagements and community gatherings.
