Pair who blocked traffic with a parked car ends up with weapons offenses
TRENTON - A Trenton couple was arrested and charged with gun possession after a traffic stop in the North Ward Thursday, police said.
Anthony Simon, 36, and Zaina Sampson, 45, were each arrested and charged with gun possession offenses, receiving stolen property and obstruction. Sampson also was charged with disorderly conduct, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
Bail information was not available for either Simon or Sampson, according to police records.
Police on patrol on the first block of Passaic Street saw a car blocking traffic. The car was parked with its driver's side door open. Police stopped to investigate, Varn said.
Simon got out of the car from the driver's side and started walking away. He was told to stop. He turned and walked back to the car and reached inside with something, Varn said.
Sampson also got out of the car and began approaching the officers, yelling and causing a crowd to gather. Officers told her to stay back, but she kept coming, Varn said.
Police found a handgun in the center console of the car in plain sight.
