The committee is finishing up a series of interviews with community members about the former president's 'racist' legacy.

PRINCETON - Some board members who are considering a change to the Woodrow Wilson name on Princeton University's campus spoke with community members at a regular meeting Monday night.

Trustees Brent Henry and Angela Groves talked at a regular meeting for the Council of the Princeton University Community Monday night, addressing their thoughts on controversy surrounding the former president, the Daily Princetonian reported.

Henry and Groves serve on a committee to review Woodrow Wilson's legacy and his connection to the Ivy League's campus after a series of protests last fall called his allegedly racist policies into question.

Protesters demanded the university take the Woodrow Wilson name off of all school affiliations. The university responded by forming a committee to consider the demands.

The answer to the question of Woodrow Wilson's legacy is not just cut and dry, Henry argued at the meeting.

"Henry added that while it is important to recognize a public figure's contributions, it is also important to balance that with other aspects of his or her life," The Daily Princetonian reported.

Others at the meeting suggested taking the Woodrow Wilson name from the school of public and international affairs but not renaming the school, the Daily Princetonian reported.

The meeting came at an appropriate time; Henry, Groves and other committee members are close to finishing up a series of small group discussions with members of the community about the issue.

Once they finish their discussions, the committee - which is comprised of trustees - will submit a decision to the Board of Trustees for review.

They are only holding a few more meetings and interested community members are encouraged to share their thoughts and sign up for meetings on the committee's website.
