They were expected to discuss Innovative Payroll Services and a prospective vendor, Primepoint, LLC.
TRENTON -- Trenton City Council held a closed-door session Tuesday to discuss the city's payroll problems as the public continues to be left in the dark about the severity of the situation or how much money the city could be on the hook for.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office launched a criminal investigation last week after the city reached out to them over concerns about its payroll company, Innovative Payroll Services, and payroll taxes that went unpaid to the government.
Other than saying that the city continues to investigate the situation, the administration has refused to publicly disclose any details.
On Tuesday, council met in an executive session to discuss, among other things, contractual matters regarding IPS and a prospective vendor, Mount Holly-based Primepoint, LLC.
Council is expected to vote Thursday on an $130,000 emergency contract with Primepoint. Of that amount, $54,166 would cover the rest of the fiscal year through June 30 and $75,833 would cover July 1 through Jan. 31, 2017.
Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson asked for more information about Primepoint's background and bonding, but Business Administrator Terry McEwen said those details would be discussed in executive session.
