James Chasey, 39, of the Brown Mills section of Pemberton Township, has been charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and theft of a motor vehicle.

Chasey first broke into an unlocked car on Alfred Drive around midnight Thursday, stealing a GPS unit and personal paperwork, police said. He then forced his way into Holy Cross Lutheran School on Crosswicks Road and stole a safe with a small, undisclosed amount of money.

Police believe Chasey then walked to the Goddard School down the road and stole a 2014 Subcompact Mazda2 from the parking lot.

Chasey was arrested a few hours later by State Police after he crashed the car on Interstate 195 in Robbinsville.

State Police charged him with receiving stolen property before turning him over to Bordentown Township police.

He's being held in Burlington County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Police said more charges could be filed in the near future because they believe Chasey broke into other unlocked cars in the Holloway Meadows neighborhood.
