TRENTON - A Trenton police officer shot and killed a dog during a raid on a West Ward house Thursday, authorities said.
Detective Sgt. Anthony Manzo shot and killed a pit bull terrier that charged officers executing a search warrant on a house on the 100 block of Passaic Street, police said.
The dog charged at officers and Manzo shot at it several times. The dog continued to charge and Manzo shot again, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
The shooting is being reviewed by the Trenton Police internal affairs unit, Varn said.
Omar Lamar, 33, was arrested and charged with a litany of offenses during the raid where police found a loaded, .32-caliber handgun, 20 grams of crack and 5 grams of MDMA in the house, police said.
Lamar was charged with drug and weapons offenses, setting booby traps, five outstanding warrants and maintaining a narcotics nuisance. He was jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail, according to police records.
