Police were called to the 400 block of North Clinton Avenue around 1:20 a.m. on a report of gunfire in the area. They found no victim, however, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

A 27-year-old man was found on the 1300 block of Princeton Avenue with gunshot wounds to the left side of his chest, his abdomen and his right hand, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

The man had been taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton in a private car from the scene on North Clinton Avenue, but refused medical treatment and walked away from the hospital, Varn said.

Police found the man more than a mile away from the original call.

The man was taken back to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was rushed into surgery. His condition was not immediately known Friday.

The Shooting Response Team is investigating.
