Today's letters: praise for Mobile Meals of Hamilton Township, Inc. & Lawrence Township Meals on Wheels
On January 15, The Times of Trenton printed an article stating that Meals on Wheels of Trenton Ewing would now be referred to as Meals on Wheels of Mercer County, expanding their service area to include many communities with thriving home delivered meal programs including Hamilton, Lawrence, and other areas of Mercer County.
Mobile Meals of Hamilton Township, Inc. is entering its 41st year of service in the Hamilton Community providing meals to homebound, chronically ill, handicapped, and convalescing residents. Age/financial ability are not now and never have been qualifying factors. We currently serve between 80-100 people per day thanks to our lifelong relationship with meal provider, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton and many volunteers.
Before this announcement, residents of Hamilton and other Mercer County communities knew to call their local program when requiring home delivered meals. We are concerned that these residents will now call Meals on Wheels of Mercer County instead of their local programs who have been providing services for many years. Please let this letter serve as confirmation that Mobile Meals of Hamilton Township, Inc. plans to continue providing caring, quality services to our residents for many years to come.
Suzanne M. Fornaro & Eileen E. Eversheim
Mobile Meals of Hamilton Township, Inc. executives
I read your article in the Saturday Times that Trenton-Ewing Meals on Wheels is now delivering meals in Lawrence Township and that they have named themselves "Meals on Wheels of Mercer County."
Please be aware that Lawrence Township Meals on Wheels continues to serve the residents of Lawrence as they have done so well and ably for the past 35 years. Hamilton Township is also well served by their own Meals on Wheels organization. I would also note that Lawrence Township, when combined with Hamilton represents approximately one third of Mercer County's population.
The Trenton-Ewing organization's name change is troubling to our organization. We will be expressing our concerns to Trenton-Ewing MOW directly but we appreciate the opportunity to clear up the confusion cased by their name change.
William H. McCarroll
Lawrence Township Meals on Wheels president
