Tunnels into and out of New Jersey were opened Sunday morning but there are speed restrictions on major roads and State Police warn drivers to stay off the roads if at all possible.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey opened bridges and tunnels 7 a.m. The move affects the George Washington Bridge, the Lincoln Tunnel, the Holland Tunnel, the Bayonne Bridge, the Goethals Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing.

The opening went without a hitch, according to N.Y. Gov. Andew Cuomo.

But NJ Transit, with service shuttered since the beginning of the storm, remains closed.

There is a speed restriction on both the Garden State Parkway and the NJ Turnpike keeping vehicles to 35 mph from the Delaware Memorial Bridge in Pennsville Township to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee.

A truck fire was reported shortly after 2 a.m. on the Turnpike at interchange 13A - Newark Liberty International Airport, according to the turnpike authority.

The New Jersey State Police are warning people to stay off the roads if at all possible. Troopers so far have responded to 231 crashes and 1,047 motorist aids.

"Let's help them out by staying off the roadways unless absolutely necessary," State Police, in a Facebook post, said.

State Office of Emergency Management spokeswoman Laura Connolly tells us New Jersey remains under a state of emergency while crews get the roads cleared.

"There is no travel ban, but we ask people please stay off the roads and use caution if they do have to get on the roads," she said.

As of 7 a.m., State Police had responded to 262 accidents and 1,455 requests for motorist aid on the state's highways.
