The Rescue Mission of Trenton has a policy to not turn away anyone who is seeking shelter Watch video
TRENTON -- The Rescue Mission of Trenton is working to make sure that no homeless person is without shelter, heat and food during the weekend blizzard that could bring up to a foot and a half of snow to the area.
The shelter has a policy to not turn away anyone who is seeking shelter during weather emergencies.
"The Mission is committed to providing a safe, clean, warm refuge for the homeless, the hungry and the addicted," COO Barrett Young said. "We have emergency food provisions, blankets, and staff on call should the winter storm bring in additional clientele or cause transportation shutdowns."
The Emergency Services program is open seven days a week, 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. at 89 Ewing Street. A day center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Rescue Mission has been in contact with the city, county, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, HomeFront and Trinity Cathedral to ensure that all essential emergency services are provided uninterrupted. Contingency plans are also in place should any of the buildings lose power.
"Of course, we hope that we do not need to enact any of emergency planning and we make it through this weekend with heat and power, but we are prepared to handle whatever Mother Nature brings," Young said. "The good thing is that our community partners are more than willing to assist in the event we have to relocate clientele beyond the Mission."
