Jaishawn Mathis, 22, and Anthony Baldwin, 24, were arrested at a house on the first block of Eisenhower Avenue Thursday morning
TRENTON - Two Trenton men - one wanted for attempted murder - were arrested and charged with weapons and drug offenses by a joint force of federal, state and local authorities Thursday, police said.
Jaishawn Mathis, 22, and Anthony Baldwin, 24, were arrested at a house on the first block of Eisenhower Avenue Thursday morning by U.S. Marshals, State Police troopers and members of the Trenton Police Violent Crime unit, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
Mathis, who was wanted in connection with a Jan. 17 shooting on the 1400 block of West State Street, was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault with a gun, and gun offenses in connection with the shooting, Varn said.
A 40-year-old man told police that he was approached by a man in a hoodie who hit him in the face with the butt of a gun and shot him in the back, police have said.
An investigation by members of the Shooting Reponse Team led to warrants for Mathis' arrest, Varn said.
Mathis was also charged with gun and drug possession and distribution charges stemming from his arrest Thursday, when police found a 9mm handgun and a bundle of heroin. Baldwin also faces the same gun and drug charges, according to police records.
Mathis' cash bail was set at $250,000. Baldwin's bail was not immediately available, according to police records.
