HAMILTON -- Firefighters rescued a man from his burning garage Sunday evening in University Heights, officials said.
The man suffered burns and smoke inhalation in the blaze, reported just before 5 p.m. on Tar Heels Road. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, firefighters said.
The man's mother was also injured in the incident and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Firefighters said they arrived to find heavy fire in the garage and a report from the man's mother that he was still inside the garage.
District 2 and 7 firefighters, from the the Mercerville and Nottingham fire companies, put out the fire and pulled the man to safety, firefighters said.

Firefighters at the scene said the cause of the fire was still under investigation but it appears the man drove his vehicle in to his garage and suffered a medical attack, and the car kept running.
The car eventually caught fire and the man's mother called the fire department.
No other information about the victims was available Sunday night.

Hamilton firefighters rescued an occupant of 47 Tar Heals Road from the garage. The occupant was transported to Capital Health at Fuld along with the homeowner.
