Today's letters: praise for Hamilton Mayor Kelly Yaede & President Barack Obama
I would like to commend Hamilton Mayor Kelly Yaede upon her selection of Hamilton-raised US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to administer her oath of office. As a former member of our wonderful community it was a considerable honor for Justice Alito to return home to perform this duty.
I believe Mayor Yaede has worked diligently to restore honor and integrity to the office of Mayor. Furthermore, I think her recent inauguration ceremony performed by Justice Alito illustrates the level of pride she has restored in our community. Her desire to do things right supersedes politics and personal gain.
Hamilton was presented in a positive light across our region and country thanks to this austere ceremony.
Thank you to Mayor Yaede not only for a job well done but for the style and grace in which she conducts herself. Also thank you to Justice Alito for showing that he has never forgotten the town in which he was raised.

As I saw excerpts of the President's town meeting I had mixed feelings and this time I believe the President is correct in using executive authority. I don't own a gun. Never saw a reason for it.
There was a movie in the 80's starring the late Robin Williams, the late Walter Matthau, and the late Jerry Reed called "The Survivors. " To make this short and sweet it dealt with guns and how they can be misused and who has their hands on them. A comedy if I recall, but it showed how irresponsibility is no different now or 33 years ago. Guns have killed children. Children. It killed 1st graders, it killed high school students. It killed college students and killed several Presidents, wounded a Governor, and wounded a Congresswoman Gabby Gifford and in that killing took a young child. The NRA says it has the right to own guns. Do you, NRA, have the right to commit murder with people who don't need them?
Guns are owned by private citizens for protection. Do you have the right to commit murder? To me it seems those who get guns to commit murder will get them despite any executive order given by any President, because the GOP asserts their right to bare arms as protected by the 2nd Amendment.
That right was in the 18th and 19th Centuries. I doubt they expected what has transpired now.
Guns have killed those who legally carry guns, who are sworn to protect us. They being police officers, who hope they go home alive. I remember a night that I felt the power of the law and the force of a nightstick on the back of my head and punches to my ribs by those who were doing me a favor. It was the best beating I ever got. It cleared the cobwebs of head playing and I thank those two State Troopers who woke me up and got me to remember whose side they are on. President Obama your gesture is correct, but the NRA and the GOP will never allow you to do whats right. They don't care about kids regardless of age, they want their right to kill those whose innocence will never live life. A gun killed my niece Kimberly.
That is why I hate guns.
