A few minutes later, the 33-year-old woman saw her ex-boyfriend, Michael Williams, 42, leaving her house on the 300 block of Garfield Avenue around 9 p.m. in the Dec. 20 incident. Someone inside the house smelled a strong odor of gasoline, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

Police arrived, along with the fire department, which confirmed that someone had spread gas all around the house but did not light it, Varn said.

The woman, another 59-year-old woman and three children -- a 12-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl were evacuated from the house in the incident but were unharmed by the fumes, Varn said.

Warrants were issued for Wiliams, who was delivered to Trenton Police on Monday by the Bucks County, Pa., jail. It was unclear Tuesday why Williams was in custody in Bucks County, Varn said.

Williams was charged with aggravated arson, child endangerment, simple assault and two outstanding warrants. He was jailed in lieu of $75,000 bail, according to police records.
