Criticizing Christie, HomeFront thanks Mercer | Letters

Today's letters: criticizing Governor Chris Christie & HomeFront thanks Mercer County

Thank you so much for placing that hilarious quote on your front page on Sunday.  I didn't have to turn to the comics to brighten my day.

The quote from Chris Christie attacking Marco Rubio was a classic and sent me into gales of laughter.  For those readers who are not aware of how clueless our Governor is let me give them the quote: Christie chastises Rubio for not voting in the Senate by saying, "How about showing up to work..."  This is the same man who has barely set foot in NJ for six months.

Perhaps we can hope that Mary Pat talks some sense into his head and persuades him to quit the race and stop making a fool of himself.

It has been an amazing year for HomeFront's families, and we owe it all to the generosity of the community for embracing them in so many ways.

HomeFront's primary mission is to help our families build self-sustaining lives and create happier futures for themselves. But we know the human spirit needs more than food, shelter and job training. It also needs fun, joy and celebration. It needs a holiday dinner, a visit from Santa and Christmas gifts for the children.

Every year at the holidays, HomeFront puts out the word and our friends open their hearts!

This year they filled the Christmas wish lists of 3,000 children in our community. I wish you all could have been there when the parents came to pick up the presents. Smiles lit every face and every eye brimmed with tears. Yes, mine, too. I've seen it before, but it's fresh and new every time. Our parents, volunteers and staffers were all feeling the love. And on Christmas morning, the children felt it, too.

Our friends know that holiday celebrations feed the soul and restore the spirit. And thanks to you - our donors and volunteers - these life-affirming essentials were provided to our families abundantly and generously. Thank you all so much!
